Cane Transport Bridge Back to Normal
CANE TRANSORT BRIDGE BACK TO NORMAL
Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) has completed construction of the new Naturu bridge in Nakelikoso along the Wainikoro Road, 70 kilometers outside of Labasa and one of the cut-off points for the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s Labasa cane railway tracks.
FHH Labasa Manager Jashneet Deo said the bridge was damaged two months ago at the commencement of the cane season.
FHH was contracted by the Fiji Roads Authority to build a new bridge on the site and within two days, a temporary bypass was constructed nearby.
“It was crushing season so the pressure was on us to get the bridge fixed on time. On receiving the design, ordering beams and receiving the beams from Suva, we went to work immediately. It took us two weeks to get the bridge up and running again,” Mr Deo added.
Traffic flow on the 30-meter single lane bridge has fully resumed
Maintaining the road network is a major part of the Fulton Hogan Hiways responsibilities under the Northern area maintenance contract they hold with FRA.
