NZDF Efforts Continue in Fiji Despite Bad Weather
The New Zealand Defence Force’s (NZDF) cyclone relief work in Fji has proceeded despite recent bad weather, including the category three Tropical Cyclone Zena.
The NZDF contingent took precautions to protect the NH90 helicopters in Suva and on the island of Vanua Balavu where HMNZS Canterbury and Army engineers are operating. No equipment or buildings were damaged in these areas.
As soon as the cyclone had passed the recovery efforts resumed and the NZDF continued their rebuilding and relief duties as they have done for the last six weeks.
Colonel Glenn King, commander of the NZDF Task Force, said: "This has not hampered our scheduled work and we remain on track to be finished by our anticipated completion date."
• Colonel King and his Chief of Staff, Lieutenant Colonel Michael van Welie, are available for interview today and tomorrow. To arrange interviews please contact Major Logan Vaughan on 021 478 574 or logan.vaughan@nzdf.mil.nz
