Piped water restored to Nasavu
Repair works conducted by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) on the Nasavu rural water system in Ra, following the devastation caused by TC Winston, has come as a blessing for seven families there who have been without proper piped water for more than seven years.

Village elder, Alekiso Naitini, with Farasiko Osea and Vikatore Cari demonstrating how they used to collect river water before WAF mended the pipeline.
The families, who live about 50 metres away from the main village, used to receive piped water but flooding caused major damage some time ago to their pipeline that ran beneath the nearby river.
Village elder, Mr Alekiso Naitini, said that although the river had assisted them with their daily water supply, it was also a barrier between the seven households and the rest of the village.
“Sometimes, we walked to the main village with our kegs, gallons and buckets to collect piped water, but most of the time, we just depended on the river.
”After the cyclone, a team of workers from the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) visited our village to conduct repair works on the damage. This repair works has also resulted in the maintenance of our pipeline and now we are receiving water.
“Our plight of carrying buckets, kegs and gallons to and from our homes has now been solved. We thank WAF for its tremendous assistance,” said Mr Naitini.
