Helen Clark media statement on next SG straw poll
The UN Security Council has held its fifth poll on the candidates for UN Secretary-General. This was another positioning poll. We did not expect the results to be very different from the previous poll and this turned out to be the case.
The selection process moves into a new phase next week with the introduction of coloured ballots to differentiate the votes of the Permanent Members.
There were more ‘discourage’ votes exercised against most candidates in this round. I am still in a group with most other candidates.
I am pressing ahead towards the next poll.
