Azevêdo Underlines Growing Importance of Services in Global Trade
Speaking at the Global Services Summit in Washington D.C. on 17 October 2017, Director-General Roberto Azevêdo highlighted that trade in services accounts for almost 50 per cent of world trade today. He said that updating rules for trade in services is one of a wide range of issues currently being discussed by WTO members and he looked forward to working with a variety of stakeholders, including the private sector, “to build a stronger trading system — which supports the services industry and continues to promote growth, development, and job creation everywhere”.
