The wife of former Palau President Johnson Toribiong was detained in Saipan on Tuesday due to an outstanding arrest warrant on the United States mainland.
The Department of Public Safety confirmed Christa Toribiong was placed under arrest upon entry at the Saipan International Airport in relation to charges filed against her in the State of Texas.
These include a criminal charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) filed against her by Grayson County.
Christa, who is a lawyer, has reportedly filed for divorce from the former president Johnson, but the official status of their relationship is unclear.
