Qatar’s Massive Investments Programme In Africa Is Commendable
It is reported that the Qatar-based Al Mansour Group has committed to inject a three hundred billion dollars ($300, 000, 000, 000.00.) investment into the African economy. Countries like Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Burundi and Zimbabwe are currently the target for this foreign massive investment package on the continent.
The New African Charter International (NACI) is very much grateful to God Almighty Allah for this historic development, and appreciate Qatar for considering Africa a real partner and an investment destination. This partnership should be seen as a source of strength in overcoming economic difficulties faced by the African continent. From the bottom of our hearts, we do and call on all Africans to appreciate Qatar’s timely, unprecedented, and crucial support to our continent. This development is a living proof of the new emerging African environment, which embraces good governance, political stability, economic recovery and sustainable environment.
While we commend Qatar for its continued and unshakable development agenda in Africa, we want to bring to the attention of the Gulf State, under the charismatic and wise leadership of Emir, His highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the alarming situation in the Sahel region of Africa. This situation has manifold impacts on restoring peace, security, stability and pursuing development and sustainable environment programmes.
We want to share with Qatar our concern with the situation in the Sahel region, which has become one of the most volatile regions of the world. The destruction caused by activities of foreign terrorist groups, the malicious campaign, religious extremist terrorism, the illegal, unjust and inhumane sanctions, aggressive rhetoric and threats of foreign invasion and economic sabotage are visible today more than ever before, in the region, which includes Mali, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Niger. The Sahel region has also become a hotbed of proxy terrorism wars and a victim of the geopolitical interests of major power blocs keeping the region in continued destructive crisis and adversities.
For the last fourteen (14) years since the imposition of the ongoing extremist terrorism war, the Sahel region has been placed top of United Nations Human Development Index as accountable for the world's illiterate and poorest region. This poverty stricken region faces the worst hit of tribulations, pains, suffering and innumerable adversities as the challenges of restoring peace, stability, security, development and sustainable environment are visible. The campaign of misrepresentation, malicious propaganda in the media and outside threats only undermine peace and ongoing development process in the region. Attempts by neo-colonial agents to criminalise the progressive governments of Mali, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Niger threatened the very survival or existence of the entire Sahel region.
This situation warrants our concern and call on Qatar’s intervention to do more to help the Sahel region regain its lost peace, security, and stability, which are the basis and foundation for any development and sustainable environment programme. The continued terrorist attacks, sabotages and external threats are the biggest threats to the region’s progress. These are challenges not only to Africans, but also to the conscience of the global community. Qatar has a role-to help change this ugly narrative and to invest in the region’s economic, infrastructure, information, technology, food and agriculture production, energy, transport, education, health and the environment. This is the cry of the people of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, and of course the cry of all Africans, both living at home and abroad.
In the view of NACI, Qatar’s commitment to peace, continued support and investment for sustainable, equitable and stable growth in Africa is a challenge to all Africans. We therefore want to advice the recipient African governments not to let down Africans into shame and disgrace, but should properly manage Qatar’s solidarity to benefit of all segments of the targeted African countries. This will go a long way to consolidate peace and promote reconciliation on the continent.
Qatar’s role in the global development has not gone unnoticed, it is visible in all corners of the world. Besides its engagement in economic development and environmental activities, Qatar’s commitment to global peace is not only commendable, but its position the gulf State in a unique and unmatched standing. When Africa cries for peace, human development, justice and freedom, Qatar would always come and answer to the call, to help wipe-off the tears of the African continent.
Within the context of this turbulent period in the history of the Sahel, when terrorist attacks, economic disruption and the massacre of innocent civilians are pervasive in people's daily lives across the region, that we call upon Qatar, and especially the great Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani to immediately intervene. We call on Qatar to consider the Sahel region for investments, to work with the leadership of Mali, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Niger towards peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the region.
Long live the Emir of Qatar!
Long live
Qatar’s solidarity with Africa!
