Ahmadiyya Muslim Community New Zealand Condemns Bondi Beach Terror Attack And Praises Courageous Act Of Humanity

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community New Zealand unequivocally condemns the heinous terrorist attack that took place at Bondi Beach in Sydney, targeting innocent members of the Jewish community during a sacred and significant time of worship and celebration. Such acts of violence are an affront to humanity and a betrayal of all moral and religious values.

Echoing the statement of the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community New Zealand affirms that nothing can ever justify violence against the innocent. Islam upholds the absolute sanctity of human life and teaches that the taking of a single innocent life is as grievous as killing all of humanity. Terrorism, hatred, and extremism are therefore entirely incompatible with the true teachings of Islam.

At this time of grief, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community New Zealand extends its heartfelt sympathies to the Jewish community in Australia and worldwide, and to all families affected by this tragedy. We stand in solidarity with them and pray for the swift and complete recovery of those who were injured.

Honouring Courage and Compassion

We also wish to publicly commend the extraordinary bravery of the individual who intervened to stop one of the attackers, placing his own life at risk to protect others. While reports about the hero’s personal background vary and it may not be confirmed whether he is Muslim, his actions embody the universal values that Islam teaches: courage, compassion, and the protection of innocent life regardless of faith, ethnicity, or belief.

The Holy Qur’an emphasises the protection of freedom of religion and the safeguarding of all places of worship. In Surah Al-Hajj (22:40-41), God teaches that monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques—where God’s name is remembered—must be defended. This principle lies at the heart of Islamic teachings: to protect people of all faiths, or of no faith, and to stand firmly against injustice and oppression.

Statement from the National President

Speaking on behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community New Zealand, the National President, Mr Bashir Khan stated:

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this act of terrorism, which targeted innocent people at a time of peace, worship, and communal joy for our Jewish brothers and sisters. Such violence has no place in our world and finds no justification in Islam or any faith.”

“At the same time, we are deeply moved by the selfless courage shown by the individual who intervened to save lives. This act of humanity reflects the very principles Islam teaches - love for all, hatred for none, and the duty to stand up for the protection of others, irrespective of their religion.”

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community globally and here in New Zealand stands united against all forms of terrorism and extremism. We reaffirm our commitment to peace, interfaith harmony, and the protection of human dignity. In moments like these, our shared humanity must rise above hatred.”

A Call for Unity and Peace

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community New Zealand reiterates its long-standing and unwavering stance: Islam is a religion of peace, and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has consistently condemned terrorism in all its forms, without exception or qualification. We call upon all communities to reject hatred, to resist division, and to work together to build societies founded on mutual respect, compassion, and justice.

In solidarity with the Jewish community, and with all those affected by this tragedy, we renew our prayers for peace and our resolve to stand for the sanctity of human life - today and always.
