Stop Targeting The A. E. S. And Its Leaders

Ahmed Sekou Toure, the late Revolutionary Leader of the Republic of Guinea once said: ‘If the West appreciates you too much, ask yourself what you did to your own people; he says further that: ‘When imperialism congratulates you, it is often that you have stopped defending your people’.

Non-intervention is a cherished principle in the Charter of the European Union (EU). That is to say, all EU member states owe an obligation of respecting the sovereignty of all nations, and the demand that all disputes be settled by peaceful means and in such a manner that is devoid of endangering international peace, security, stability and justice.

‘All member states of the EU shall in pursuit of their international relations refrain from the use of threat or force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, whether big or small.’ ‘Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the EU to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter.’

The principle of non-intervention protects the sovereignty, political independence, and territorial integrity of all nations across the world.

Interfering in the internal matters of other nations is a longstanding EU policy that gives expression in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, North Korea, and many more. The truth is that the EU seeks to extend colonialism through a policy of neo-colonialism and dominion over the planet, its resources and populations. It also seeks to lull all other countries to its tastes and designs.

In pursuant of its neo-colonial agenda, the EU places progressive, sovereign and independent governments on its target list for annihilation. Like the United States of America, the EU hides behind the façade of democracy and human rights to destroy governments, leaders and countries that refuse to bow down to outside dictation. This is where the AES members-state fit, and there is just no country on earth that has a tainted image than the US and EU countries when it comes to meddling in the internal matters of other sovereign independent nations.

The US and EU stand indicted for fomenting overt and covert activities, such as secretly funding individuals, private groups, and political parties in other countries, creating civil unrest, and divisions among ethnic communities on the soil in Africa. Besides, the US and EU do not stop from those wicked, obnoxious and subversive acts, they also orchestrate so-called opposition protests, which sometimes turned to be violence; they sponsor coups, murder foreign leaders, execute brutal military invasions and implement regime change in favour of satellite governments that will do their bidding.

Now coming to the crunch of the matter, which concerns the EU attempts to meddle in the internal matters of the Sahel region. Information at our disposal revealed that, the European parliament voted in a resolution dated 12th March, 2026 demanding the immediate release of former President of the Republic of Niger- Mohamed Bazoum.

Hearing this type of rhetoric from the EU reminds people of the story of Barabbas in the Holy Bible. The resolution is an ill-intent, highly politicized and seriously flawed assessment of the situation in Niger. SaS-CaN wants to make it crystal clear in this statement that the EU resolution on Niger demonstrates Western powers intent to pack international pressure against members-states of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) by concocting stories after stories in order to hang the Sahel region on the Altar. It is time for the European Union to stop treating Africa as a thrash or shithole (To borrow the insulting and race-filled words of US President Donald Trump), and to abandon its neo-colonial-driven agenda, selfishness, and hypocrisy and bullying tactics when commenting about governance in Africa.

To the Sahel Solidarity Campaign Network (SaS-CaN), the EU resolution is nothing but a clear attempt to meddle in the internal affairs of the Republic of Niger, an independent and sovereign country, and by extension ta dangerous move that seeks to undermine the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Delving into this issue seriously, SaS-CaN wants to ask these pertinent but needful questions that African leaders can comment on the re-emergence of Nazism in Europe, today.

What will really be the reaction from European nationals one should condemn or even refer to EU leaders as Nazis incarnates in this 21st century. This EU resolution comes at a time when the Islamic Republic of Iran is facing unprovoked attacks and military aggression from the US and Israel, both of which are allies to the EU. It goes without saying that demanding security and protection for EU nationals against the heinous activities of Neo-Nazis forces in Europe would not mean that we have a penchant for interfering in the EU’s internal matters. Yet still they continue to remind us that the international community is very interested in what is happening in the Sahel region.

Neither the UN nor the EU has the right to meddle in the internal matters of any independent and sovereign state across the world. This vicious line of outside dictation promoted by the EU is not about democracy or human rights in the Sahel region; it is not about Niger’s sovereignty or territorial integrity. It is about command and obeying the masters in Brussels, as if the EU, like the US, can just bully and strangle any other nations on the face of the earth.

The EU needs to put itself in the shoes of others. If a member-state was attacked by foreign terrorists that were recruited, trained, armed, funded and supported by some other nations, would the EU allow this to happen in that part of the world? SaS-CaN must not be blamed if it decides to lash out at the EU's bullyrag in response to their audacity to have their puppets returning to power in Niger or turning the entire Sahel region into a trust territory under Brussels exploitative and authoritarian dictatorship.

This is no longer a case of 'Do as I say, not as I do,' to quote the sayings of students of theology. The EU resolution is a recipe for destabilisation and must be condemned by all peaceful and freedom-loving people of the world. The writing on the wall is very clear, and that the European Commission has overstepped its role and its mandate. So, it must be stated that the EU resolution constitutes a string of examples of hostile meddling mentality by neo-colonialist actors to peace, security, stability and development processes in countries and regions, such as the Republic of Niger and the Sahel region.

Since the collapse of the former Soviet Union and the WARSAW Pact, the US and EU under the umbrella of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) have flouted the Charter and principles of the United Nations, and selectively applied international law. They concocted various false narratives such as so-called possession of weapons of mass destruction, dictatorship and human rights violations in order to taint the image of other countries and for those countries to look as if they are a threat, and which must be wiped-off the planet. They also use commercial blockade, economic wars and sanctions to impose collective punishments on other countries, like Iran, Iraq, Libya, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ecuador, etc.

In this information age, the world must not sit aloof and allow these heinous crimes and crimes against humanity to take place in the first place. The world must never allow the EU or US or NATO to place itself above the Principles and Charter of the United Nations. If no action is taken now to stop this relentless interference in the internal affairs and violation of sovereignty of other nations, the purposes of the UN Charter and basic norms in international relations will be defeated. And the impact would be a disaster for the non-nuclear nations, which account for over 90 percent of the world’s population that could well become the next target for annihilation anytime.

The EU and the US have a long history of meddling in the internal matters of Africa. It will be Africans, and not the EU or US or NATO who could decide on the future direction of Africa. Africa’s might is its unity and resolve to break away from the chains of neo-colonialism and imperialism. The Sahel is writing a new history for the entire African continent, and the AES is standing strong against all foreign pressures. By issuing this public statement, SaS-CaN categorically rejects this EU resolution that targets in particular the Republic of Niger; a racist resolution which also, is not accepted by member-states of the AES, including Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

By accelerating its meddling mentality in the affairs of the Sahel region, the EU has crossed a red line in its latest attempts to ridicule the competent authorities in Niamey (Niger). The resolution itself is biased, race motivated, inciting, hateful, and does not reflect the true situation in Niger.

The questions that should be asked now, for instance, in the case of the situation in Libya are that-what is the impact of the 2021 NATO led military aggression on ordinary Libyans and the entire African continent? How many innocent civilians have been wounded, killed or uprooted in the Northern African nation? How many families have been devastated, frustrated, impoverished or lost? Have the US, EU and NATO countries involved done any soul-searching on these tragedies unleashed in Libya? Have they felt even a tinge of guilt for the serious ramifications and catastrophes they caused for the African continent? Have they ever made an apology to, or ever compensated their victims in Libya?

The EU's latest resolution on Niger demonstrates a total disregard for the dignity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of another sovereign and independent member-state of the United Nations. It should be seen here as a classic example of double standards and selective and discriminatory application of diplomatic norms on a country fighting to rid itself of terrorism and genocidal war. Much as Africa is concerned, the AES will never allow any attempt that can distract attention from the war against international organised crime in the Sahel region.

Through this statement, therefore, SaS-CaN urges the EU to take note of the impact of its biased resolution, which is imbued with hatreds, grudges and malice undertone, rather than seeking solution to combat the threat of terrorism in the Sahel region. Neither pressure from the US, EU nor NATO can reverse the ongoing development process in the Sahel region. Africans are satisfied with the continued achievements of the New African Revolution in the Sahel region and the continent shall not be bound by any race-filled package resolution.
