Short Forecast from Weather Workshop valid to midnight tonight:
In the north and west of the North Island from Northland to Manawatu, also for Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Showers at times. Snow lowering to 900 metres about the central plateau which includes the Desert Road. Showers becoming confined to the central plateau later with only the odd shower persisting elsewhere.
For Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Cold and showery with further snow about the ranges.
In Wellington and Wairarapa: Rain this morning with hail and snow likely to 500 metres. That includes the Rimutaka Hill Road.
For Nelson: Cloud and fine breaks with a few showers likely.
The South Island west coast: Any remaining showers clearing and becoming fine and frosty.
For Marlborough and Canterbury: Showers with some sleet and snow to 200 metres in the east this morning.
In Otago and Southland: Wintry showers with sleet and snow to low levels slowly clearing from the south.
Chatham Islands: Showers.
