Short Forecast valid to midnight tonight:
The north and west of the North Island from Northland to Manawatu, also for the central high country: Showery conditions, some thunder and hail likely this morning.
Bay of Plenty, also for eastern areas from Gisborne to Marlborough and Wellington: Long fine periods but showers spreading from the main ranges at times. Cold southerlies spread into Wellington and Wairarapa by afternoon.
Nelson: Showers clearing later.
South Island west coast: Showery in many places. Becoming mostly fine south of Hokitika but showers persisting about southern Fiordland with snow there at night to 800 metres.
Canterbury: Light rain about the coast. Snow inland to about 800 metres. Slowly becoming fine inland from afternoon.
Otago and Southland: A few showers about the south coast spreading to most places. Snow to 700 metres in the south.
Chatham Islands: Rain breaking to showers with northeast winds easing.
