North and west of the North Island from Northland and Wellington: also the central Plateau and Bay of Plenty. Fine at first. Cloud increasing late morning from Taranaki southward. Drizzle patches there later in the day.
Gisborne to Wairarapa: Mainly fine apart from some high cloud developing. Northwesterlies strengthening south of Napier later.
South Island west coast: Showers about the fiords turning to rain and spreading to most areas. Heavy falls expected south of Hokitika late in the day.
Remainder of the South Island: Fine at first. High cloud increasing during the day with rain about the main divide and western ranges. Northwest winds strengthening inland from mid Canterbury southwards.
Chatham Islands: Cloud and fine breaks.
