Northland to Wellington, also the central plateau and Bay of Plenty: Mainly fine apart from a few cloudy periods.
Gisborne to Wairarapa: Showers gradually clearing from Gisborne, further south becoming fine. Tomorrow, fine.
Nelson and the South Island west coast: Cloudy periods with patchy rain developing south of the glaciers and turning to more general rain tomorrow. Rain not spreading further north until late Saturday.
Marlborough and Canterbury: Mainly fine apart from increasing high cloud tomorrow.
Otago and Southland: Dry with increasing cloud this evening. Patchy rain developing about the western ranges tomorrow.
Chatham Islands: Showers clearing overnight. Cloud and fine breaks tomorrow.
