Region votes for Transmission Gully Motorway

11 April 2006

Greater Wellington Regional Council

Region votes for Transmission Gully Motorway in Western Corridor Plan

The Regional Land Transport Committee has voted to include the Transmission Gully Motorway in the Western Corridor Plan.

The vote was 15 in favour, 1 opposed with 2 abstentions.

The new Western Corridor Plan will be recommended to the Greater Wellington Regional Council for inclusion in the Regional Land Transport Strategy. The Strategy clearly sets out the region's expectations for future investment by government agencies in transport infrastructure.

The decision whether or not to fund the construction of Transmission Gully Motorway is ultimately taken by Land Transport New Zealand after it has received a funding application from Transit. In making its application for funding, Transit must take into account a number of matters including the Regional Land Transport Strategy.
