Man Assaults Police Officer In Tokoroa

At approximately 1916 hrs, 23 Ocotober, a single man Police patrol based at Tokoroa pulled over and stopped a male riding a motorbike. Once stopped, the male assaulted the officer breaking his jaw and fled from the scene on the motorbike.
The offender was sighted by another police patrol approximately 5 kms from where the officer was assaulted and failed to stop when indicated to do so and a pursuit commenced. During the pursuit, the offender drove into a tavern car park and in attempting to escape from the police patrols, crashed into two police cars resulting in the offender sustaining a broken leg.
Both the police officer and the offender were taken to hospital with status 3 injuries.
Enquiries are continuing and the offender will be charged with related offences.
