Pregnant Woman Killed In Crash Near Opiki
Palmerston North Police and the Police Serious Crash unit are investigating a fatal crash which occurred at midnight on Saturday night.
The head-on crash between two vehicles occurred near the Opiki township after a north-bound vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with a south-bound vehicle.
A heavily-pregnant woman driving the Southbound vehicle was killed at the scene, while the male driver of the Northbound vehicle was critically injured.
A passenger in the woman's vehicle was also injured and was taken to Palmerston North Hospital.
The dead woman was 42 years old. Her name will not be released until the next of kin have been advised.
Police are investigating whether alcohol was a contributing factor in the cause of the crash.
