Onzo adds 100,000 rides to Auckland’s cycling landscape

New Zealand transport startup Onzo has reached 100,000 rides of its bikes around Auckland, less than 9 months after its launch.

Onzo is a dockless bike sharing service. Its bikes are located all across Auckland. Users can unlock their bikes by scanning them with the Onzo mobile app (available for iOS and Android). Journeys cost $1 an hour.

The milestone was reached in early July, with the 100,000th ride being an early morning commute from Karangahape Road down to Britomart.

“We’re really happy to have reached 100,000 rides. We always believed that Aucklanders would embrace bike sharing but didn’t think it would happen this fast.” says Onzo spokesperson Han Li.

Onzo’s dockless model means its bikes can be parked anywhere that is publicly accessible and unobtrusive. “We believe our dockless model helps makes biking more accessible and convenient, and that this has led to our strong growth.”

Onzo aims to make our cities more liveable by reducing our carbon emissions and traffic congestion.

While Onzo only operates in Auckland at the moment, they plan to expand to other cities around New Zealand, including Wellington and Rotorua. “We hope to have Onzo’s all around New Zealand and are currently working with a few councils to make this happen.”
