ACP Media the High Flyer at Qantas Media Awards

ACP Media triumphed in 13 out of the17 magazine feature writer sub-category awards on offer and had winners and finalists in several other categories at the Qantas Media Awards for print media announced in Wellington tonight.

ACP Media titles North & South and Metro were the most awarded magazines on the night, with their journalists winning eight and five magazine feature writer sub-categories respectively [Editors: refer to note at end of release], while Little Treasures was recognised as a finalist for Trade/Professional Magazine of the Year.

Among the 11 ACP Media journalists recognised for their skill and professionalism at the awards ceremony, Simon Farrell-Green of Metro was the winner of the Junior Magazine Feature Writer award, while North & South’s Nicola Shepheard and Mike White were finalists for the Senior Magazine Feature Writer category. “It has been a fantastic night for everyone involved in North & South, Metro and Little Treasures,” says ACP Media Group Publisher, Debra Millar. “Their consistently excellent standard of journalism is the reason why hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders turn to these publications to be informed about the issues that are important to them.”

North & South took home a swag of awards recognising the broad scope and high quality of its content. It beat all-comers in the feature writer sub-categories of Health & Medicine, Human Relations, Maori Issues, Pacific Islands Issues, Science & Technology, Sport & Racing, Tourism & Travel, and Government, Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs.

Published monthly since 1986, North & South is a respected commentator on national social, political and cultural issues, with a reputation for delivering hard-hitting stories. North & South has a circulation of 37,919 and readership is 300,000.

Metro, last year’s Qantas Media Awards Magazine of the Year, enjoyed another string of successes. The magazine scooped the feature writer sub-category awards for Crime & Justice, Environment & Conservation, General, Motoring, and Business, Finance & Consumer Affairs. In addition, Metro’s talented design team received accolades by taking out the Best Magazine Cover of the Year award.

The epitome of a metropolitan monthly magazine, Metro combines current affairs journalism, lifestyle, comment and excellent design and photography. It helps Aucklanders get the most of their diverse city while also tackling the big stories that all New Zealanders are interested in. Metro’s circulation is 16,882 and readership is 165,000.
