Auckland Power Outage Update Early Afternoon - 12 Jun 2006
Transpower reports that electricity is now being restored to Auckland central business district and affected suburbs. A fault, which occurred at 8:32 am this morning, caused the power failure when overhead earth wires dropped into Transpower’s 110 kV switching equipment.
Restoration work, which is undertaken by Vector, will continue through the afternoon to restore power to affected areas and is expected to be completed by early evening.
There were high wind gusts in the affected area at the time of the outage and this may have been a contributor.
In the South Island weather has contributed to localised power outages as a storm front and associated snowfall moves north. On the west coast of the South Island, snow cats have been needed to get to locations requiring repairs and problems are continuing to be experienced as the storm moves through.
