The Six O’clock
Swill is a monthly series of one act plays held at Mighty
Mighty on Cuba Street, Wellington, New Zealand.
The Swill is proud to present the New Zealand premiere of On Story, by Bill Wrubel. Wrubel, who has written and produced for Ugly Betty, Will & Grace, and Sports Center, gives us a peek at the twisted characters that create a Hollywood sitcom. Welcome to the comedy writers' room, enter at your own risk. Directed by Steven Whiting.
October’s Swill also features the hysterically black comedy on the farm. Cow is an absurdist exploration of a young girl’s unwillingness to conform in the classic Kiwi play by Jo Randerson. All Beth wants to do is make a cow out of leaves, but her efforts are thwarted by, amongst others, a father who thinks he's cat, an interfering yuppie couple and a loud American tourist. Directed by Gene Alexander. 'Weird, funny, intriguing. Above all, it has an individuality to it which is refreshing.' Laurie Atkinson, Evening Post
Also on the playbill for October is an improvisational saga that returns us to the days when a moustached man ruled the beach. He would become a permanent guest at the Robin's Nest, but first, did he do a tour of duty at the Dharma Initiative? Television’s Lost meets Magnum PI in Magnum: The Lost Episodes. Directed by improv guru Derek Flores, Magnum will run every month with a new exciting instalment.
So for only $5 you get three one act plays performed by some of Wellington’s finest talent – all in one of Wellington’s funkiest bars, Mighty Mighty!
So come on down, grab a pint and enjoy an evening of culture.
