Ministry offer ‘astonishing’ – PPTA
PPTA negotiators were astonished by the offer the Ministry of Education put to them today, after being assured it would be worth teachers’ while.
The union suspended industrial action planned for tomorrow, in good faith, in order to hear and explore the offer, president Kate Gainsford said.
The PPTA negotiating team has been meeting with its ministry counterpart since 10am.
After a disappointing start, PPTA negotiators will wait to determine whether there is any further movement possible, but have warned the ministry that there will be no leisurely pace or game playing allowed, Gainsford said.
“Further industrial action will take place unless there is a greater sense of urgency seen at the table and a significantly greater commitment from the government away from the table.”
Details of the offer made at the start of the negotiations have been sent to members.
There will be a special meeting of PPTA’s national executive on Thursday evening to discuss their responses and any further progress which may have been made with negotiations.
Currently PPTA is still at the negotiating table.
