NZEI Te Riu Roa supports student action on climate change

NZEI Te Riu Roa supports young people taking part in a second strike for climate action today.

NZEI Te Riu Roa Vice President and intermediate teacher Liam Rutherford says it's inspiring to see young people leading the way on such a critical issue.

"As a teacher, it's really exciting seeing the kids I teach realise they have influence over the world they live in and take action," he says.

"The disappointing thing is young people are only having to take such a strong stand on climate change because the adults of the world have let them down."

"While the strike will mostly be attended by secondary school students, I'm sure early childhood, primary and intermediate teachers across the country will use the day to talk about climate and environmental issues. Our children understand that we all can have positive or negative impacts on the environment, and many of them are proactively bring these issues to the table in class."
