Legislative solution the only way to stop Zimbabwe tour
The Green Party is urging the Government to find a legislative solution to the Zimbabwe cricket tour crisis after its meeting with NZ Cricket failed to find another way to prevent the tour from going ahead.
"It's time for the tough talk to be backed up with decisive action," Green Co-Leader Rod Donald says.
"New Zealanders expect their politicians to demonstrate moral leadership in the face of the extraordinary human rights abuses in Zimbabwe. The only way to stop the tour is to explore legislative solutions and that's what we're urging the Government to do.
"The overwhelming majority of parties in Parliament agree the tour shouldn't go ahead. It's now time to convert that political consensus into a solution that both stops the tour and gets NZ Cricket off the hook of a possible ICC fine."
