ACT leader Rodney Hide says it's totally unacceptable that Auckland can be plunged into a power blackout by a few hours of bad weather.
"Years of neglect have seen Auckland's infrastructure degraded to a third world status", Mr Hide said.
"Aucklanders are paying more tax and more rates than they've ever paid before, and they're getting nothing in return.
"In the lead up to the power blackout, the so-called 'Minister For Auckland Issues', Judith Tizard, has prepared no papers for cabinet on the infrastructure problems that Auckland confronts.
"Helen Clark's government has gone out of its way to scare off investment into infrastructure in New Zealand.
"Government should remove their party political blinkers and consider all options to boosting investment", Mr Hide said.
