JPs must face their responsibilities
The decision of two Justices of the Peace to suppress their own names over fears for their safety is completely unacceptable, says National’s Justice spokesman, Richard Worth.
“There is no statutory basis to justify what they did.
“Justices of the Peace occupy an important role in the legal system and they must fearlessly and without favour discharge their duties.
“A critical element in our justice system is openness of process.
“If Justices are not prepared to be identified with the decisions they make then they should surrender their warrants of appointment.”
