Katene pleased with marae opening its doors
Maori Party MP for Te Tai Tonga Rahui Katene is commending Ngai Tuahuriri for opening their marae to people in need of accommodation because of damage from Saturday’s earthquake.
So far Tuahiwi Marae, located about 25 kms north of the CBD, is the only one in the district to open its doors as other marae were still being assessed for structural safety.
“This is manaakitanga in action and I’m so pleased to the mana whenua come together to support everyone in Kaiapoi and beyond,” said Mrs Katene who is currently in Otautahi working with local communities to deal with the aftermath.”
Mrs Katene appealed to whanau and communities throughout Aotearoa for donations.
