Labour Supports Papatoetoe Election Probe
Anyone found to have acted improperly or unlawfully in relation to local body election enrolments should face the full consequences of the law, the Labour Party says.
The Police have been investigating alleged irregularities with local body electoral enrolments in Papatoetoe for the last two weeks. The Labour Party has cooperated fully with the investigation.
"The integrity of our electoral system is essential to the genuinely democratic basis of our elections and anything that undermines that integrity needs to be dealt with firmly and forcefully," Party president Andrew Little said.
"We will support the police in any action they see fit to take."
"If as a result of the police investigation into the Papatoetoe irregularities we become aware that any Party member is involved we will also take appropriate action internally," Mr Little said.
Some candidates in the Auckland local body elections are running under a Labour Party banner and others are running under banners loosely associated with the Party.
