Green MP Joins Coromandel Residents In Newmont Gold Protest

Green Party MP Catherine Delahunty is today joining with local Coromandel residents who are protesting against the Newmont Gold drilling rig in the coastal community of Opoutere at 1pm.
"Newmont have a drilling programme which threatens several beautiful coastal communities north of Whangamata,” said Ms Delahunty.
“The local residents and the Green Party want these areas protected.
“Coromandel people are saying mining the Department of Conservation land or the coastal areas is not sustainable .
“We love our coastal recreational areas and we want to protect them from this kind of damaging industrial impact.”
