PM’s Paris posturing embarrassing Kiwis
John Key is embarrassing New Zealand on the world stage by posturing over climate change while saying New Zealand should reduce per person emissions only a quarter as quickly as Europe, Opposition Leader Andrew Little says.
“At the Paris climate talks, the Prime Minister is proposing only an 11% reduction in CO2 emissions, while the EU and the Labour Party are advocating for 40%. It is little wonder he was awarded “Fossil of the Day”.
“The National Government spends more on subsidising foreign oil companies than on climate change research. A $20 million increase in research spend is a token effort in the face of the billions of dollars of damage rising sea levels will cause.
“John Key is sticking his head in the sand as the sea rises. He is little more than a fossil fool, gutting agriculture out of the Emissions Trading Scheme, increasing oil imports and taking New Zealand’s greenhouse emissions to record levels.
“New Zealand used to be a leader on the world stage, a country with integrity that would do the right thing. John Key is an insult to that legacy,” Andrew Little says.
