Budget embraces ‘communism by stealth’
“The boost to
Working for Families is the perfect example of how National
is abandoning its roots,” says ACT Leader David
Seymour.
“In 2004, John Key called these payments
‘communism by stealth’. Now Steven Joyce is using this
policy to buy votes with other people’s money.
“Paying
people more money to have kids was never good policy. Now
it’s even worse, with stronger incentives for people to
keep having children even when they’re not in a strong
financial position. It’s an insult to the majority of
parents who wait and save before having children. And, if
God-forbid, you’re childless, the Budget snubs
you.
“The National Party is meant to believe in personal
responsibility and low taxes, now they’ve not only adopted
Labour’s policies, they’re championing them. These
changes will shift even more of the burden onto the 17% of
Kiwis who already pay over 45% of all income
tax.”

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
