Clark appointment reflects NZ’s reputation in development work

Helen Clark’s appointment as administrator of the United Nations Development Programme is an indicator of New Zealand’s reputation as a top player in international development work.

“New Zealand is regarded as a world leader in the delivery of effective aid,” says Council for International Development executive director David Culverhouse. “As a former prime minister, Ms Clark is seen as having played a significant role in building that tradition.”

“Ms Clark’s administration was responsible for overseeing the setting up of NZAID as a semi autonomous body, and this agency has received accolades from the international community.”

“We wish Ms Clark well in her UN career, and hope she will remain a good ambassador for the interests of poor people in developing countries,” says Mr Culverhouse.
