Prime Minister Gillard
The New Zealand Defence Force will provide a 50-person Guard of Honour of Army personnel for the official welcome ceremony for The Honourable Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia, at Parliament on Wednesday 16 February at 9.20am. As part of the ceremony a 19-gun salute will be fired from Point Jerningham at approximately 9.30am.
Later in the day the Prime Minister will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial and Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, Buckle Street, Wellington, starting at 4.45pm.
New Zealand Defence Force personnel serve alongside the Australian Defence Force in Solomon Islands, Timor Leste and Afghanistan. Australia is our closest strategic partner. Each year we conduct a number of combined exercises, and share expertise and knowledge.
