Second week of full strike action at Ports of Auckland

Second week of full strike action announced at Ports of Auckland

16 February 2012

The Maritime Union has announced ongoing strike action at Ports of Auckland.

A further one week strike notice has today been placed on the port starting 2 March.

This would directly follow on from the one week full strike notice that is due to start 24 February.

Maritime Union of New Zealand National President Garry Parsloe says that any strike action could be lifted if port management returned to negotiations.

He says the Union has shown it is prepared to negotiate and find a constructive solution, but the Port Company will not negotiate and are threatening the livelihoods of workers and their families.

Mr Parsloe says a management scheme to outsource the workforce is undermining good faith bargaining and is being challenged by the Union.

A major campaign is underway setting the record straight about the issues, which had gained strong interest in Auckland and internationally.

More information about the issues available on campaign website www.saveourport.com
