Final Chance to Have Your Say on the Future of the New Zealand Flag

If you didn’t get your voting paper into a postbox yesterday, you need to hurry. That’s the advice from the Electoral Commission three days out from the close of voting in the second referendum on the New Zealand flag.

“It’s not too late to have your say, but you need to make sure your paper will be cleared and postmarked before voting closes this Thursday at 7pm,” says Robert Peden, Chief Electoral Officer.

“Your best bet is to take it to a PostShop before the close of business on Thursday and put it in the postbox there.”

Replacement voting papers can no longer be issued, and the race is now on to have all voting papers returned in time to be counted.

“We want everyone’s papers back in time, so please don’t leave it till the last minute,” says Mr Peden.

Preliminary results will be released after voting closes on Thursday 24 March, and official results on Wednesday 30 March. The flag that receives the most votes in this referendum will be the official flag of New Zealand.
As of Monday 21 March 1,901,599 voting papers had been received by the Electoral Commission (60.20% of enrolled voters).
