Child Poverty Action Group annual Post Budget events


Find out what the impact of Budget 2017 will be for families and children, in Child Poverty Action Group’s 2017 Post Budget presentations.

Every year Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) hosts Post Budget Breakfast events across the nation to present its analysis of the Budget and how it affects children and young people, especially those in the most precarious social and economic situations.

We warmly invite you to attend a presentation in your locality. In each CPAG will provide its analysis and commentary on Budget 2017 which is being announced on May 25. Special guest speakers as well as spokespeople from CPAG will feature.

The events are being held on May 26 in the following locations:

Auckland Mt Albert War Memorial Hall - breakfast served at 7:15am, speakers start at 7:30am. Guest speakers include senior lecturer in economics Dr Stephen Poletti , Associate Professor Damon Salesa and Honorary Associate Professor in Economics, Susan St John.The Auckland event will also be recorded live and streamed in real time on www.thedailyblog.co.nz.

Wellington (with the Public Health Association) The Boat Shed, Taranaki Street Wharf - breakfast served at 7:15am, speakers start at 7:30am. Speakers include Alan Johnson: CPAG housing expert and Salvation Army Policy Analyst, Laura O'Connell Rapira: Director of Campaigns at ActionStation, John Ryall: Assistant National Secretary of E tū, representing low-income workers.

Dunedin Presbyterian Support Otago - commencing at 12.00pm, midday. The event will feature guest speakers and a panel discussion. Speakers include Associate Professor Karen Nairn of Otago College of Education, Graeme Pringle of Mirror Counselling Services, Pip Laufiso: Senior Education Adviser, Ministry of Education, Jo Mckenzie of Otago Youth Wellness Trust as well as Desiree Williams: CEO of Malcam Trust.

WhangareiManaia Health Public Health Organisation, 12.30pm start. Speakers include Associate Professor Mike O'Brien from the University of Auckland’s faculty of social work and CPAG social security spokesperson, as well as Professor of Maori Education Dr Cindy Kiro.

In Nelson the Post Budget Breakfast will take place on May 31 at Stoke Primary School Hall, from 9.30am - 11.30am. Speakers include Alan Johnson: CPAG housing expert and Salvation Army Policy Analyst, Kindra Douglas: Director at Victory Community Centre and Rosalie Grant: Manager of Nelson Budget Service.

In Christchurch organisers will host a Post Budget Podcast with the help of Speak up Kōrerotia, which will be available to download on the evening of May 26. Speakers include: Helen Leahy of Te Putahitanga o Te Waipounamu, the Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency for the South Island and Paul Dalziel: Deputy Director of the Agribusiness and Economics Research Unit at Lincoln University.
