Closures For Marathon
Transit New Zealand would like to remind Auckland motorists of closures on the Auckland Harbour Bridge and some on and off ramps of the motorway on the morning of Sunday, 29 October 2000.
The closures are for the safety of participants in the BMW Marathon and Half Marathon. They include the Curran Street on ramp of the motorway, the northbound clip on of the AHB (Curran Street to Stafford Road), the Stafford Road off ramp, and the northbound off ramp and the southbound on ramp at Northcote. Closures will be effective between 5.30 am and 9.30 am.
Closures and detours will be clearly marked, and supervised by Transit contractors as well as the Police and race organisers.
Transit National Commercial Manager, Daniel Thompson, says that the safety of the runners and walkers is paramount and motorists are asked for their patience during the closures, although he says the prompt reopening should ensure delays are kept to a minimum.
“The BMW marathon has the potential to grow into an international drawcard, and Transit is pleased to support it. If the event runs smoothly this year, it’s likely to get progressively bigger.”
