Arts In Parks
Manukau City Council’s Leisure Services unit is bringing The Drifters to Manukau in January.
Manukau residents are encouraged to bring along family and friends for a unique opportunity to see icons from the golden era of Rock and Roll. The concert will be held at the Manukau Sports Bowl (Velodrome) on Sunday 14 January 2001, starting at 5pm.
Council’s Arts Events & Programmes Co-ordinator Richard Green says, “Council is organising this event to help make the arts more accessible to our community. We’d love everyone to bring their families and a picnic and enjoy a summer evening of entertainment. There will also be rides and entertainment for the kids.”
For many people born in the 60's and 70's The Drifters’ music will be readily identifable. Save the Last Dance for Me, Under the Boardwalk, and Saturday Night at the Movies are all periennal favourites.
“If this concert is well supported, we intend to extend the number of City-wide art events and concerts in Manukau”, says Richard.
Cost is $5 per person or a family ticket for $15. Children under five are free – tickets are available by phoning 09-275 0481. Gates open at 3pm with the concert running from 5pm to 9pm.
