A magnificent collection of dolls from around the world has been gifted to Manukau City by resident Marcie Cargill. Manukau’s Mayor, Sir Barry Curtis, will formally accept the collection on behalf of the City at a brief ceremony this week.

Mrs Cargill has spent the last 25 years building up the collection often from small amounts of her pension. She felt if she couldn’t afford to visit these places as least she could enjoy the dolls.

The display includes a large collection of dolls in traditional dress, a group depicting the British Royal family and the Guard of Honour. Furniture, silverware, picnic sets and other appropriate accessories collected over the years are also on view.

Sir Barry is thrilled that Mrs Cargill has chosen to gift her prized memorabilia to the city. “This collection, which has given its owner so much pleasure over the years can now be enjoyed by the people of Manukau. We are fortunate indeed,” he said.

Everyone is welcome to see Sir Barry formally accept the collection at the Mangere Community Arts Outreach Service on Friday 1 December at 5pm.

The display will be on view at Mangere until 5 December, and then at the Otara Music Arts Centre in the New Year 9th - 31 January.
