Music On Your Mind In The Summertime!
Sunday Jazz, Latin & Classical at Nathan Homestead
Looking for ways to while away your summer afternoons? Manukau City Council’s Leisure Services team has organised an exciting summer outdoor concert series.
Council’s arts staff are keeping the musical ball rolling following the Drifters concert held last month. Brett Jude, Operations Manager, says that these concerts are part of a renewed focus on initiating a number of performances and entertainment opportunities that residents can enjoy.
“Our arts events and programmes staff are working on a wonderful range of entertainment and performance events - for example the Otara Music Arts Centre with its lunchtime concert series, and Mangere Arts Outreach Services with its ‘band-jams’. Our long term focus is to bring together all these performance events into a comprehensive programme that will compliment our regular exhibitions, workshops and classes.”
The free summer series concerts will be held over the next two months in the grounds of Nathan Homestead. The varied programme includes a range of musical styles including jazz, latin and classical.
“We have the New Pacific Music Ensemble which melds traditional jazz instruments with the drums and rhythms of the South Pacific. We also have the Vox Nova Trio, bringing us the sounds of latin america, and the Manukau Youth Orchestra performing some stunning classical pieces.”
Bring along your picnic basket and blanket and be entertained! If wet the concerts will be transferred to Nathan Homestead theatre.
