The Auckland Regional Council is likely to accept a Manukau City offer to give it ownership of three pieces of land adjacent to its regional parks

ARC¡¦s Parks and Recreation Committee is recommending its full council accept Manukau¡¦s offer as well as an offer to hand over management of control of a fourth piece of land.

Committee Chairman Bill Burrill says most of the land in question already effectively operates as part of the adjoining regional parks and Manukau¡¦s offer presents an excellent opportunity to rationalise land holdings within the respective park environments.

¡§Manukau City have made us a generous offer and while the parcels of land in question are not huge, they will add to the community asset which is the regional parks network.¡¨

The land likely to change ownership is:
„h 4.0640 hectares adjoining Tapapakanga Regional Park and currently held by Manukau City as a road reserve for the narrow metal public road in the Tapapakanga stream delta which leads to the coast;
„h the two hectare Papanui Point Reserve at the end of the Kawakawa Bay Coast Road together with a three hectare strip of unformed legal road along the coast which connects up with Tawhitikino Regional Park; and
„h a 3028 square metre reserve at the end of Ambury Rd which is completely surrounded by Ambury Regional Park, together with 4040 square metres of closed road.

As well as these three parcels Manukau is offering the ARC management and control of a small reserve at the head of Te Puru Creek adjacent to Omana Regional Park.

Should the hand over go ahead the ARC will pay only the associated legal and administrative costs estimated at $17,000.
