Regional Park access for people with limited mobility

People with limited mobility could soon have easier access to regional parks as a result of a study currently being conducted by the Auckland Regional Council.

Dianne Glenn, Deputy Chair of the Auckland Regional Council Parks and Recreation Committee has initiated a study to determine the quality of the experience for people with limited mobility visiting Auckland’s regional parks.

Currently people with limited mobility find some regional parks difficult to use and enjoy because they are frequently distant from facilities that offer comfort and information services.

“This study will enable people with limited mobility to access relevant information to make trips to regional parks easier and more enjoyable”, says Cr. Glenn

Cr. Glenn has asked her paraplegic sister Jenny Majurey to assist with the study.

“Jenny will systematically visit regional parks to determine the access to facilities and features for people with limited mobility.”

A pamphlet will then be produced and made available to the public that will provide information on the parks best suited for people with limited mobility.

This information will also be available on the ARC website (www.arc.govt.nz) along with other Regional Parks information.
