Regional Councillors Sing - "Well Done Wellington"

REGIONAL COUNCILLORS SING - "WELL DONE WELLINGTON CITY"

Wellington regional councillors Robert Shaw and Chris Turver are today singing the praises of their Wellington City counterparts, after the city council resolved to support the development of Kenepuru Hospital.

WCC's Community, Health & Safety Committee considered a submission to support more facilities at Kenepuru even if it meant additional funding had to be sought from central government.

The submission confirms the decision of the council over a year ago when it made the point that residents in the north of Wellington City have a common interest with Porirua and Kapiti.

Crs Shaw and Turver said it was "great to have the 3 councils united in their support for the development of Kenepuru Hospital".

"Capital & Coast Health said recently that the community supports their plan for the hospital, but the legitimate elected representatives of the community all oppose them" Cr Shaw said.

"In local government you have to be able to see the big picture and think long-term."

"The plan of Capital & Coast Health to spend 90% of the $290 million capital development money at Newtown is short sighted.

"The Wellington City Council submission said that they 'tried to consider what is appropriate for the Wellington region, rather than arguing purely from a position of self-interest' and they were very successful in their attempt" Cr Shaw added.
