D-Day For Hazardous Goods

Unwanted hazardous waste can now be disposed of safely as mobile collection points are set up around Manukau.

The first HazMobile drop-off point for Manukau City will be at Sir Lloyd Drive carpark, Lloyd Elsmore Park Pakuranga on Saturday 15 September from 10am-2pm.

Senior Policy Analyst Stuart Gane says people are often unaware of the potential danger some household waste creates. He says the free service will not only protect people but will help to safeguard the environment.

“We’re asking people to drop their hazardous waste to a collection point rather than throwing it out with their household rubbish or worse tipping it down the drains. We know residents want to do more for the environment. The HazMobile is another tangible initiative alongside kerbside recycling and inorganic collections to do this,” says Mr Gane.

The HazMobile will accept almost all household hazardous waste (HHW). HHW is any waste generated in the home, garden or garage that is potentially dangerous to health and the environment.

Some of the most common ones are paints, solvents, pesticides, car batteries, furniture polish, gas cylinders and more.

For more information on what can and can’t be collected visit www.hazmobile.nz or contact Manukau City Council’s Call Centre 24hrs 7 days on PH 262 5104.
