Ellerslie Flower Show Brings Wide Benefits To Manukau

The 2001 Ellerslie Flower Show held last November has had tremendous spinoffs for Manukau, and analysis of the economic impact reveals it injected $8.74 million into local businesses and created 66 fulltime jobs in the city.

The annual event is supported by Manukau City Council. This year's show will also be supported by the Council.

Over the last four years the Flower Show has grown into the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and is now a world-class event. Over 72,000 people visited last year and the Council-sponsored entry also won a gold award.

It is a major feature on the Manukau event calendar and provides a high profile and significant economic impact for the City.

Mayor Sir Barry Curtis says the Council's investment is returned many times over in money terms and in the pleasure it brings to people. "In addition the Ellerslie Flower Show also brings a variety of new entertainment and leisure opportunities for Manukau City residents and promotes a positive, vibrant image for the city throughout New Zealand and overseas."
