This Friday 3 P.M: Public Demonstration By Citizens Against Rowdy Motoring

On Friday April 5 at 3.30 p.m., the Citizens Against Rowdy Motoring are demonstrating (whose big logo is a hoon accelerating a car with the front wheels off the ground, and a rocket-like exhaust blast, at the corner Cuba Street and Andrew Young Street, outside the Manawatu Muffler Centre.)

"MUFFLERS NOT TROMBONES"

At the demonstration, there will be trombones (home made, but beautifully chromed with aluminium lunch wrap, and real, working sliders) making imitation rowdy muffler acceleration noises. There will be placards saying "Mufflers, not trombones" and "Boycott the hoon-makers" and "Public Action Meeting night 18 April, 16 The Square, 7.30 p.m."

The purpose is to (a) Draw attention to muffler vendors who promote rowdy, violent motoring

(b) Publicize a Public Action Meeting of CARM to be held Thursday, 18 April at 16 The Square, near the Palmerston North public library. That probably lively meeting will include citizens, police, muffler vendors, neighbourhood representatives, and business representatives. The goal is to decide best practical measures to stop the plague of rowdy exhausts and violent driving. (Better enforcement of warrant of fitness standards, reporting of offenders, public education, slow-down humps in streets.)
