Manukau City Council’s libraries are preparing for the May 16th world-wide release of Star Wars II: The Attack of the Clones with a new competition which will test fans’ knowledge of the series. The competition starts on Monday 15 April at all branches of Manukau Libraries.

“Linking library activities with an international movie release like Star Wars II : The Attack of the Clones, helps to attract children, teenagers and adults to the library – in this case those who are Star Wars or sci-fi fans,” explains Kelly McKean, Education & Literacy Co-ordinator.

“It’s a great opportunity to reach out to boys in particular – having a child interested in reading a Star Wars book could be their first step in developing a love of books and good reading habits,” says Ms McKean.

“Likewise with teenagers, these types of promotions are a great pull for getting teenagers into the library and gives us the chance to introduce them to the library’s Young Adult collections and services. Ultimately what we want to do is maximise the level of use of library services by children, teenagers and adults. A promotion like this is one way of working towards that.”

All libraries across the Auckland region are involved in the promotion, including Manukau, Waitakere, North Shore and Auckland libraries.

The competition finishes on Friday 10 May with all correct entries going in the draw to win prizes sponsored by Village Cinemas and Gotham Comics. Prizes include movie passes, videos, books and action figures.
