PHOTOGRAPHERS ON THE LOOSE IN CAPITAL CITY

From Friday evening 66 photographers will fan out across Wellington to capture the life and times of the city over a 24 hour period. The 24 Hours in Wellington photo shoot will start at 4 pm on 20 September and run until 4 pm the following day.

Participants include both professional and non-professional photographers, as well as talented photography students from Onslow College, Rongotai College, Wellington Girls' College, Wellington High School and Hutt International Boys’ School.

Project organiser Graham Blow of the Wellington Photographic Society says each photographer will receive three assignments to be completed during the 24 hour period. Team leaders, who are well known commercial and media photographers, will act as mentors and provide advice on technique and support for the photojournalists.

“We are very pleased at the level of support shown by both the community and businesses to the idea of being captured on film. Many have been delighted to make themselves available to help us illustrate what makes Wellington tick over one complete day.”

More than 10,000 images will be shot during the 24 hour period, with the best pictures appearing in a double page spread in the Dominion Post on Thursday September 26. From September 28 to 17 October, 55 of the best images will be on display at the WestpacTrust St James theatre. The 24 Hours in Wellington event is organised by the Wellington Photographic Society with support from Fujifilm, Wellington Photographic Supplies, The Dominion Post, Ricoh Image Communication, Auldhouse Computer Training and many additional sponsors.
