Painted Apple Moth Aerial Operation To Resume This Morning

The second extended aerial operation against the painted apple moth will resume at first light this morning. About five hours of flying remains for the two fixed-wing aircraft to complete the operation. Close to 4,000 hectares was completed yesterday before the operation was called off due to high winds.

Areas targeted in today’s operation include: Te Atatu South, Massey West, Oratia, Kelston, Harbour View, parts of New Lynn and part of the north western motorway between Avondale and the Waterview off ramp.

Once again, the aircraft will take breaks to refuel between 8-9.00 am, 12.15-1.00 pm and 3-4.00 pm when children are walking to and from school and are at lunch.

Suburbs completed yesterday include: Ranui, Henderson North, Western Heights, McLaren Park, Glen Eden West, Glen Eden, Sunnyvale, Henderson, the southern part of Lincoln, Glendene, Avondale, Waterview and parts of Mt Albert, Point Chevalier and Blockhouse Bay. Traherne Island and a strip of the north western motorway between Massey and Rosedale Road, two gullies in the Wairau Creek and Glendene Stream, the Waikumete Cemetery and an area in Swanson near the Stagecoach bus depot were also completed.

The aerial operation zone covers approximately 8,000 hectares and around 40,000 properties.
