Anti-spray protest outside MAF Health Service
Auckland residents concerned about the aerial spraying will demonstrate outside M.A.F Health Service
"Aer'aqua Medical Services Ltd" - 139 Remuera Rd, Remuera - 8am - the first day in this next round of spraying - phone 0800 969696 to check whether this will be wed/thurs/fri. "Aer'aqua Medical Services Ltd, contracted by M.A.F to provide the health service, claim the pesticide BTK foray 48B is safe. M.A.F claims it only effects caterpillars.
“We ask if this spray is so safe, why are "about 1000 people" evacuated by M.A.F each time they spray ? (quote NZ Herald 3/12/02).
“Why does 5% of the population react to this spray ? (to quote M.P. Marian Hobbs). This means approximately 8 500 people suffer every time they spray. Therefore we believe BTK foray 48B is not safe to use on urban populations.
“The long term effects of this pesticide have never been
completed, the population cannot be subjected to this every
3 weeks. With a 60-80% chance of failure, & 1000's of
residents suffering, it is time for M.A.F to look at the
alternative methods of eradicating the Painted Apple Moth.
Until they do so, the residents of Auckland will continue to
protest."
