M.A.F chose to aerial spray this Tuesday 28th, & Wednesday 29th January, Wednesday being the first day of the school year for the majority of schools in the spray zone.

Last year as a result of the aerial spraying, many families lives were disrupted, & many children missed days off school, end of year exams, & last day of school parties. Neither M.A.F nor the Ministry of Education cared. Parents were forced to choose between their children's health, or their education.

We want the Ministry of Education to intervene & challenge M.A.F. The Ministry is responsible for our children's safety. It has been requested to the Ministry that school's be closed on spray days, this has been ignored as they do not believe BTK foray48B is a health risk.

"School is an unsafe working environment for staff and pupils on spray day,” says teacher Catherine Hannken. “Even if not directly sprayed on, the spray drifts into classrooms and on all outside surfaces such as drinking fountains. The children are expected to stay in doors for most of the day in the heat with all windows closed. Can the Board of Trustees unequivocally state that the school is a safe environment for children of spray day?”

Under the National Administration Guidelines the Board of Trustees can be held accountable for any adverse health effects suffered by children from the spray, either by being directly sprayed on or transferred onto the skin from the playground or water fountains whilst at school. In the National Administration Guidelines, as set out in the current Education Act, NAG 5 Health & Safety: states that each Board of Trustees is required to:

i.) Provide a safe physical & emotional environment for students.

ii.) Comply in full with any legislation currently in force or that may be developed to ensure the safety of students & employees.

With the amount of children, and their families, experiencing ill health effects from the spray it is clear that the Ministry of Education need to act now to protect the children, as schools are accountable for such health risks now and in the future.

Venue: Barrycourt Conference Centre 10-20 Gladstone Rd, Parnell. Starts 5.30am, the majority of us will be there until 8am when many go to work.
On Tues. 28th - at 8.30am some of us will be going on to the protest at Ministry of Education in Ponsonby at 9am.

Barrycourt staff & the Aer Aqua (MAF appointed) nurses are unaware you have shown interest in possibly attending the breakfast.
